Cherry ~ Keya Paha County Emergency Management Asked to Join Nebraska’s Homeland Security Exercise Design Program

 

 Homeland Security is the latest buzzword and Cherry ~ Keya Paha County is no different than Lincoln in using the term. The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had set up MOU cities a couple of years ago to provide training in all types of emergency situations. This year however NEMA recognized Cherry ~ Keya Paha County for the exemplary training that is being conducted and included the two counties into the Homeland Security Exercise Design Training Program that is provided through the Office of Domestic Preparedness.

Cherry ~ Keya Paha County Emergency Management has been diligently working to aid local fire departments, EMS, and Law Enforcement on the Homeland Security Grants to secure much needed equipment for the emergency responders.  When Cherry ~ Keya Paha County Emergency Management was asked to participate in the Homeland Security Exercise Design Training Program it was a natural fit into the process. Volunteer fire departments already conduct numerous drills and training within their departments. Now all disciplines exercise together in a variety of possible incidents. Cherry ~ Keya Paha County Emergency Management set up a Homeland Security Exercise Design team to conduct orientations and workshops to prepare for a full size exercise in 2005. The Team went through the Exercise Planning Course on October 25-26, where they learned the steps to set up a functional exercise. The teams set up two scenarios and already identified areas that need to be worked on and corrected.
