The Good The Bad and The Ugly.......

December 8, 2003 This set of photos is related to the article dated November 27th, 2003. A local mechanical contractor with experience in the installation and testing of backflow prevention assemblies was called in to properly install and test the RPZA on the ice machine. The assembly passed the test, a copy was given to the owner, a copy was retained by the contractor and a copy given to Lincoln Water System. PHOTO 1 / PHOTO 2 / PHOTO 3
December 2, 2003 Have an underground sprinkler system and just don't know where to put that "PVB"??? Well lets just put it up in the ceiling and right above some electrical equipment. PHOTO 1 / PHOTO 2
November 27, 2003 The following photos are related to the November1, 2003 "WRONG APPLICATION" article. The plumbing company returns to remove the double check and installs an RPZA. Notice anything wrong here.....the test cocks are up against the wall!! PHOTO 1 / PHOTO 2 / PHOTO 3 / PHOTO 4 / PHOTO 5
November 5, 2003 The following photos are of a local facility that is having an irrigation system installed. Driving by the facility, you quickly notice a hose stuffed into the ground.....they use this technique to settle the ground where they trenched. Your eyes immediately follow the hose and where does it go ??? it's hooked up to a test cock on the RPZA. Right away you think to yourself.....hey this is wrong!!! Upon closer investigation you see that the hose is hooked up to the # 4 test cock, so the water supply really is protected. "IT STILL LOOKS BAD THOUGH".
November 1, 2003 "WRONG APPLICATION" The following photos are from a local restaurant that just had a backflow protection assembly installed on their water cooled ice machine. The protection was recommended by the Health Department. The installation was performed by a local plumbing company. This is exactly what happens when you do not have properly trained people. Public school system, this is an incorrect application....Double Check on a boiler? HELLO!!! the chemicals used in this system are extremely Hazardous. Also the height of the Double Check is approximately 9ft.
Same school system..... this is the hook-up for a water cooled ice machine. This hook-up was performed by a very well known refrigeration company.
Same school.....water cooled ice machine has no reduced pressure zone assembly installed. Also notice the drain lines, they really are stuck down into the drain about 6 inches. Makes me want to go get some ice water right now.
Another view of the ice machine.
Same school, different boiler.....again another high hazard system with just a double check assembly installed on it. The approximate height on this on is about 8ft.
Same boiler different view.
And of course MY ALL TIME FAVORITE.....lets tap into the boiler condensate tank to get our water for the drinking fountains.
Another view of the condensate tank.

Hooking up the test equipment.
Jack is purging the bypass hose in this shot.
Here are a some very corrosive, extremely toxic boiler chemicals that we try to keep out of the the potable water system by means of a "reduced pressure zone assembly" PHOTO 1 / PHOTO 2 / PHOTO 3
