Parents Present Gift to Music Program

On behalf of Lawrence Webster, his parents Mr. And Mrs. Derek Webster are going to donate a drum stool to the band program. They want to donate the drum stool because their son is doing very well in band. They are also happy that their daughter Kathleen just got started and is doing well. Both Derek and Lauren are former Band members from the old days. Lawrence’s father Derek had told the band students on Wednesday, Nov. 25 about the donation of the drum stool.

Ricky and Jeannette Perform Again at Norfolk

Improv students went to Norfolk Elementary School last week. Richard Sheridan and Jeannette Clark once again demonstrated their abilities and desire to help others by having them think about problems of young people.

New Season Begins

The 98-99 boys’ basketball season started on the 16th with 22 boys on the team. This is the start of my 5th season (4th as head coach) and this has been the best first week of basketball I’ve seen here. After 2 weeks we still have 22 out and they are all working very hard. I just want to remind the boys to keep the grades and attendance up and keep working hard in practice and good things will happen this year.

Coach Looks Forward to Good Girls’ Season

I am looking forward to this basketball season. This

should be one of the most successful seasons we have had in many years. We had 21 girls sign up for basketball, however we will probably end up with around 14-15 girls. If everyone gets eligible, and stays eligible come subdistricts we could be very competitive and playing for the sub-district championship.

Comments From the Sophomore Crew

We’ve been going over to the Headstart for about 4 weeks. Some of the kids sat and listened, while others played while I read. They all liked some of the stories. Others we described the pictures to them, and asked them what was being read. It made me feel a little good about doing some thing for others

Angelina Tamayo

Our crew has been going to the Headstart, and reading to the little children. We’ve been going over there for about 4 weeks. I enjoy going over there. I think it’s fun. The children are quiet and listen to the stories. I think they enjoy it too. At the end they all say "Thank You". They have very good manners.

Congratulations Boys

Parish Sheridan and Courtland Grant said they were proud to be part of the Omaha all state honorable mentions and Courtland said he’s had that proud feeling ever since last year when he got it for both foot ball and basket ball and the boy said if they can do it then anyone can and it takes lots of practice and good grades and you have to try hard to get it. And they hope to get it again next year. Nate Grant also received Honorable Mention in the World Herald Poll. Both Nate and Parish received honorable mention in the Lincoln Journal Star.

Eight Graders to Visit Tree Farm

The eight-grader class is going to visit Pine Hill Christmas tree farm south of Blair on Friday Dec 4, 1998 Visiting tee farm, learn how Christmas trees get planted, how long it takes for them to grow ten feet high. How many seedlings it takes to grow a Christmas tree.

A Third Grader Cares

I am sorry for those that have no home. I think we need to help them. We need to buy them a house. I think we should give them some food and we need to give them some clothes. I think we need to help those who are sick. We need to find them a family to take care of them.

Kindergarten Update

On our way to visit another island we saw a boy seemed hungry. We invited him to our Stone Soup party on Monday and we all ate Stone Soup together. On Tuesday we sang songs about Stone Soup, made Stone Soup pots and read all kinds of books about soup. On Wednesday we made Thanksgiving cards for our parents, sang song about Thanksgiving and read lots of fun books about the great feast. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Catch you later.

Omaha Flag Song

Our Umonhon Flag song was composed by Parish Saunsoci in the year 1912. It is a deeply moving song and one that has endured through five wars. To put it in the words of one elder, "Whenever I hear our flag song it makes me feel a certain way.’’ Below are some words in our Umonhon Flag Song:

Land = Monzhon

Brother/Friend = Kage

Flag = Haska

Gave to us = Wathagii

Mythology tradition

We are writing children’s stories as well as interviewing our elderly relatives for traditional stories and myths.

Ms. Smith’s Class

First Grade is working hard learning how to count money and tell time. We are still working on addition and subtraction too. We are also working with patterns and using these patterns to decorate the hall. You should see what we have planned. It is going to be pretty! We are still working with the senses in science. We also made Christmas Trees out of hands this week that we hung in the hall.

Lend a Hand to Clean our Land!

Mr. Jay asks all teachers who go out for recess, or take their students into the community for whatever reason, why not pick up a little trash on your way back to the building? It would really help to make our community look better.

Bring the recyclables to Mr. Jay’s room, and donate some cans to Ms. Wilkinson’s room.

Your efforts can clean up our community!
