I worte this for Jake. He, obviously, has had a tremendous impact on my life. It was the strangest thing. As Christmas  approached I suddenly began to feel much closer to him. I could see in his eyes, something that was just missing for me before. That feeling of love inspired this poem.

A Child’s First Christmas

Vulnerable and defenseless

I hold you in my arms

Your eyes stare into mine

And wonderment overwhelms us

You talk to me

Asking questions only you can understand

You seem to find the answers in my face

And we share a smile

On This Christmas Eve

Your first of many

I bring you closer to my chest

A kiss on the head

In an embrace

I give you all the love in my heart

Knowing, in the years to come,

Through your works and your words

You will return my gift a thousand fold
