Fri - June 17, 2005Peanut Butter and SpoonI'm not sure how I got in the habit of eating
peanut butter on a spoon. But I am sure it is a simple and satisfying
alternative to the ubiquitous PB&J sandwich.
To understand why peanut butter and a spoon go
really well together, think popsicle. The sticky texture of peanut butter
creates a challenge involving the whole mouth, while the handle provides an
immediate familiarity to the
process.
Hands down, I enjoy 'Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter ' the most, straight off a spoon. Salty, with a hearty roastiness and good mouth feel. It is best chilled. This will aid in keeping it in one place on the spoon and also make for a better presentation. This brand does require stirring, as it is "natural" for the oils to separate while sitting on the shelf. I assure you, the initial effort is worth it. Peter Pan and other highly-processed PBs are sweetened and can be too rich without enhancement. I also don't recommend chunky, but I have done it in a pinch. Peanut butter aficionados will probably want to grab a place spoon. Others may want to start small. In which case, a teaspoon is recommended. In either situation, be generous. A fully-loaded spoon is more appealing. Posted at 01:47 AM | Thu - June 16, 2005 |
