Report from the Reunion Committee
Meeting held on Sept 15, 2005
Note: We have had several meetings so far this summer and fall. Some of the folks who have expressed an interest in helping out with the committee have not been able to make it to a meeting yet. And we have had some illnesses get in the way of others attending. Or .. maybe we don’t have the proper contact info yet. No problem, we will keep you on the list and try to keep all interested folks informed until they can make it.
“How you would like to receive these reports in the future?” If we are lucky, the next report might be posted on our website for all classmates’ access.

This report for the Sept 15th meeting will cover the major items of discussion for both new and old business. Hope this brings everybody up to speed on the Reunion Committee activity.
Attending: Sondra Barry (Swoboda), Jim Atkins, Cheryl Steckelberg (Whitten), Dean Dumler, Marcia Greve (Sinkule), Dee Bauer (Huber), Ken Gates, Murray Johnson, Carol Rose (Rouse).
1. A list of folks who have expressed an interest in helping out with the committee work has been completed. This list includes all the contact information as well. Some of the folks on this list have been unable to attend any of the meetings so far but that’s ok. If you have expressed an interest in helping out in any manner, you’re on the list! If you have any classmate friends who would like to help out, bring them along to the next meeting. (An Excel file with names listed has been attached to this email.)
2. Financial Report: The LHS Class of 63 Reunion Committee bank account contains $823.00. There are no outstanding bills to be paid at this time. The account resides at Union Bank. Connie Adams and Sondra Barry are the authorized signers on the account.
3. If anyone is interested in going through “Les Franklin’s Reunion Box”, Ken has possession of all the old reunion records. This is fascinating trip through our reunion history. We have taken the time to sort all the years into separate reunion folders. The “Box” will be brought to all reunion meetings and activities for anyone to browse. There are old copies of the reunion books, photos, Les’ notes, etc.
4. We “tip our hats” to Marcia Greve for taking the time to search through all of the past lists of classmates and prepare a database of 294 names we can use for mailings. We can now communicate much easier with addresses on computer. More work needs to be done to database our missing ‘Links’ and deceased classmates. Carol (Rouse) Rose has volunteered to continue with this task. As soon as this list is updated (hopefully by Oct 20th) we are going to send a letter to all classmates advising everybody about the activities of Reunion Committee. Many of our classmates are unaware of Les Franklin’s passing so we want to get that information out as well. We will use this mailing to verify addresses, try to find missing ‘Links’, update our deceased ‘Links’, etc.
5. There continues to be an increased desire to pursue the viability of creating a memorial at Lincoln High to honor our deceased classmates. Dee (Huber) Bauer initially proposed this idea. We nominated Dee as ‘President of the Memorial Project’. We have discussed the possibility of creating a scholarship fund or funding a gift to the school. Les Franklin was instrumental in keeping our class together long after our graduation. His efforts in being our Reunion leader has kept friendships alive and created new friendships over the past 40+ years. We would like to name the memorial in his name and also pay tribute to deceased classmates. Les was active in music and performing arts at Lincoln High. We asked Dean Dumler to contact Lincoln High. He reports the auditorium is scheduled for a remodel so there is a possibility our class could participate in that project. Dean and Murray Johnson are going to contact Lincoln High again to get more information. As far as beginning a fund raising effort, lots of work will need to be done. More on this topic will be discussed at the next meeting.
6. Class of ’63 Website – Thankfully Jim Atkins, creator of our website -http://incolor.inetnebr.com/jna/class63.html was at this meeting. Several folks expressed confusion about where to find the site on the internet and he pointed us in the right direction. We talked about getting our own class domain name (www.???.com). Seems like a good idea. Jim will check into costs and etc. We would use our site to post new events, distribute our Reunion Committee reports and maybe even create a forum for communication. We’ll see! If you have any suggestions contact Jim a.s.a.p. This decision might be made pretty soon.
7. Next
Reunion Date!! We should begin to
discuss our next 5 Year reunion – 2008 - and special activities during the ‘off’
years. Anybody up for going to Las
Vegas?! Or a cruise, or wherever? IDEAS PLEASE! This kind of a special trip doesn’t have to
take the place of a Lincoln reunion but could be scheduled at a different time
and off-season for better rates wherever.
Are there any of our reunion committee folks who have experience in
arranging this type of event?
