Edward Spratt and Edward Spratt Jr. Families of Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska

 

My great-great-grandfather Edward Spratt was born about 1809 in Co. Watterford, Ireland. He married Eliza (Bow or York?) who was born 1815 in Queen's Co. (now Co. Cork), Ireland. They emmigrated to Philadelphia where they had their first six children; Jacob, Mary A, Margaret, Eliza, Michael, Kero, Kiren. Then to Holbrook, Iowa in 1844 were my great grandfather Edward was born in 1846. The Edward Spratt family is listed in the 1850 ,1856 and 1870 Iowa County Cencus, District No. 9; Green Township Page No: 548.

Edward, Jr.(my great-grandfather) married Kate McCabe in February of 1877 according to Iowa Co., Iowa records .The 1880 census shows Edward Spratt, Jr. living in Russell, (Otoe Co.), Nebraska. Edward Jr. and Kate must have moved from Iowa to Nebraska about 1878 or 1879 because their first daughter Mary was born in Iowa and Anne was born in Nebraska. Note the McCabe family living close by, they may have been the reason Edward and Kate came to Nebraska.. Edward's final move was to Bird City, Kansas (where he died in June, 1894). Edward Jr. and Kate McCabe Spratt's known children were Mamie Spratt Kettlehut, Anna Spratt McCarthy, Emma Spratt O'Brien, Bernard "Ollie" Spratt, (b. 2-23-84) and Charles Spratt. Ollie and most of his siblings ended up in Cass and Otoe Counties in Nebraska.

Ollie Spratt and Meta Gollner Spratt were my grandparents. The 1920 census has the Ollie (Bernard) Spratt and brother Charles families in Otoe Co., Nebraska.
