Harriet Beecher Stowe’s role in the Civil War and how she affected American History.
Harriet Beecher Stowe played a very significant role in the Civil War. Many historians consider her book to be one of the reasons for the start of the Civil War. Before her book was released, many Northerners were against slavery. However, they often didn’t know or understand what it was like to live as a slave. Her book made slavery a reality. It showed what it was like for slaves to be sold away from their families, from master to master, and to be beaten and treated like animals. Uncle Tom’s Cabin generated anti-slavery movements throughout the North.
She affected American History forever through her writing. Her book is an American Classic and many copies are still sold today. She used her wonderful gift of writing to try to change the world and rid it of slavery, which she considered a national sin. She changed many Northerners’ ideas about slavery by showing them the real horrors of it. She also devoted half a century to improving women's education and established her own school for women when she was twenty-one.
