The LWVEF is a 501(c)(3)organization under the Internal Revenue tax code. Contributions to this fund are tax deductible.
The League of Women Voters Nebraska Education Fund was incorporated on January 29, 1988. It is organized strictly for charitable, educational, literary and scientific purposes. As such it may engage in all activities allowed by the Nebraska Corporation Act. It does not attempt to influence legislation, nor participate in the political campaign of any candidate for public office.
The basic function of the LWVNEF is to increase public understanding of major public policy issues, and to encourage citizen participation in government. In carrying out this mission the LWVNEF conducts research, publishes the results of its research, and organizes conferences and other educational activities on current public policy issues and on techniques for effective participation in the democratic process.
A major activity of the LWVNEF at this time is its study of problems relative to ground and surface water in Nebraska. Other activities have included studies of county government, land use issues, corrections, child welfare, financing public schools, and Nebraska public school curricula. It is proud of its tradition of providing impartial and accurate information on the issues which it studies.
The LWVNEF is complementary in function to its sister organization, the Nebraska League of Women Voters, and to its local Leagues.
Founders of the League of Women Voters believed that citizens who have access to the facts on public policy issues and who know how to participate effectively will make wise decisions for their communities and their country. Almost 75 years later, the League of Women Voters Education Fund's work is guided by that same belief.
