2011 Emerging Artist Show

The Program:

Our Emerging Artist Program helps Omaha-area artists show their first body of work in a professional gallery setting.  We connect gifted newcomers with experienced mentors who will help navigate the operational details of selling artwork in the market.  In addition, because we are a cooperative gallery and a non-profit organization, you will learn all facets of gallery operation from planning, to publicizing, to hanging a show.  This program offers a gateway to creative entrepreneurship.

Our jury will select artists to show 3-5 pieces in the gallery for one month.  In addition, a public vote will help determine the winner of the 3-month mentorship program.  The winning artist will receive exhibit time at the gallery, mentoring by professional member-artists, and have opportunities to participate in group meetings.

Eligibility:

Entry is open to any artist who has never shown in a professional gallery and lives in the Omaha or Council Bluffs metro area.  Eligible artists are in the beginning stages of building a career as an artist (any medium / any category).  All work must be original and created by the artist.  No students (artist should not currently be enrolled in a high school, trade or training school, or undergraduate program -- we are looking for your own style and vision, not instructor-driven pieces).

Minimum age: 21; no upper age limit.  Artist is eligible to be in the Emerging Artist Show only one time (may apply again if you were not accepted in previous years).

Application deadline: April 10, 2011

Make sure to include the following items with your entry.

1. Images and accompanying documents on CD listing your contact information and the title, size and medium of each piece.
2. Application form below

(Gallery hours: 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday - Thursday; 11 am to 10 pm Friday and Saturday; noon to 6 pm Sunday)

Image Specifications:

• Submit a CD-ROM with five images of your work, one additional view or detail image per piece is optional for 3D works only).
• Please try to keep file size minimized to fewer than 5MB per image.
• Only jpg files. 
• Do not e-mail your images.
• Do not refer us to a web site (you may include your website on your application, but we still want to view the CD).
• Include (either on paper, on your CD in a word processing file) the title, medium, dimensions and anticipated price of each work.  Describe the process for each work.  Be sure we can tell which title and description goes with each image.
• Application fee $10 (check or hand deliver application packet with cash or credit card)

Notification:                                    April 18, 2011

Decision of Artists’ Co-op Jury is final.  We reserve the right to make final judgments on all rules.  Entry fee is non-refundable.

Pick up postcards to distribute or mail:           after May 20, 2011 (see gallery hours)

Artwork Delivery:                                               June 25 and 26 (see open hours)

Show opening:                                                    July 1 from 6-9 p.m.

Show runs:                                                          July 1-31.

Showing & Sales:

• All artwork must be original (no reproductions) and created by the artist as represented.
• Artwork that is not similar in style or quality to the juried work will not be in consideration.
• Accepted work must be ready to present professionally – works on paper should be framed under glass; paintings wired on back to hang flush against wall; 3D works balanced and stable
• All work must be for sale, all proceeds go directly to the artist (100 percent) less 5 percent credit card fees (credit card sales paid at the end of each month).
• Artists are responsible for insurance of their own work.  The Co-op will take all precautions to store and hang work carefully and to take reasonable measures in security.  We are not responsible for damage to work.

 “Public Vote” mentorship winner:

• From the selected finalists, one winner is chosen by public vote ending July 31, 2011, will be announced on our website, social media and via press release in mid-August.
• Winner gets 3 months show space from August through October & mentorship with full participation in monthly meetings.
• Expectations from you (monthly at your own schedule): creation of new work to be brought in every month (quality framing according to ACG guidelines), shadow a member(s) at an evening or day shift, help with a show hanging, attend openings and meetings.
