PARKS AND RECREATION

    Parks: Westside Park is located in the northwest part of the Village. It provides the following services to the community: Swimming pool, large park shelter with electricity available, playground equipment, grills and tables, tennis courts, a basketball court, and dunk hoop. If you need to reserve the shelter at Westside Park, contact Roxie at the Village Office. The phone number is 402-627-2055 or email to villageofshickley@yahoo.com . In addition, a smaller park with playground equipment is located near the center of town on North Railroad Street. Electrical hookups for campers, etc. are available at this park.     Swimming: The swimming pool is located in Westside Park. A large heated pool is provided along with a small wading pool. You can contact the pool at 402-627-2025.

    Senior Citizen Exercise Class: These classes are held on a regular basis early mornings at Shickley Public School's North Gym. For more information contact Judy Dondlinger at 402-627-7335.

    Summer Baseball and Softball: The Shickley American Legion sponsors these teams. There is everything from T-Ball to high school teams. For more information, contact Gerald Grote at 402-627-2375.

    Hunting: Shickley is located near several Federal and State hunting areas. For more detailed information on the areas available, contact the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Mallard Haven is located two miles north of Shickley. It consists of over 500 acres of prime wildlife habitat. Each spring, five to seven million birds migrate through the Shickley area. Among them are Canada and Snow/Blue geese, ducks and seasonal bald eagles. This area is a natural habitat for pheasants and quail. A wildlife viewing area is also available. In addition, electrical hookups are available at the downtown park in Shickley. For information on these hookups, contact the Village office at 402-627-2055.

    Ball Park: The ball park features a modern concession stand (snack shack) complete with restrooms. Additionally, the well kept playing field has plenty of seating for spectators. This facility provides activity for young and old with the many ball teams it sees for summertime recreation and pleasure. A batting cage has been installed. It was made possible through the efforts of the Shickley American Legion and the donations of many in time, money, and materials.
