Buying a New Home?

Soutwick Sewer and Drain

When building a new home in the country without direct access to a municipal sewage system, many things need to be considered.  Generally it is best to consider these questions prior to purchasing a building site.  For example, if you want to have a septic system as opposed to a sewage lagoon, you will need to purchase a lot where the soil is conducive to a septic system.  A soil percolation test will determine the size and type of sewage system that will be required to meet health department standards.  Other key questions to be considered:
  • Potential site plan for location of home, outbuildings, water well, windbreak, and corrals.
  • How many bedrooms are in the house?
  • What size is the lot you are building on?
  • Is there room for expansion of a septic system, if needed?
