Johnny Carson The Philanthropist
Johnny Carson never forgot his Nebraska roots and
continued to give back to the state time and time again. While Carson never
personally bragged about or publicized his philanthropy to the state, the
following donations have been documented:
University of Nebraska - Lincoln
2004 - $5.3 million to the University of Nebraska
Foundation
to support the
Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts
Department of Theatre Arts

1988 - Carson gave a gift to support the construction of
the
Lied Center for Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska Lincoln
campus. The black box theater adjoining the main stage was renamed the
Johnny Carson Theater in his honor.
1970s - Carson established an endowed scholarship at the
University of Nebraska Foundation to assist outstanding
Nebraska high school graduates. These scholarships have helped 24 students
with their education at the university.

- In addition, 11 boxes containing hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from
his Los Angeles office were given to the Elkhorn Valley Museum for display.
The permanent exhibit will feature Carson's Emmy Awards.
$500,000 for the Norfolk Library Foundation

Norfolk Arts Center and the Norfolk Senior
Citizens Center
