As it was 30 degrees when we departed Omaha, NE on December 21, we were anxious to make southerly progress. To that end, we entrusted ourselves to highway 75, which eventually carried us all the way to Dallas, Texas.

My first log entry read "Fresh Mobil 1, fresh Metzlers, Ready, Willing, and Able. I later jotted in the margin that I saw a shooting star in Oklahoma that day. It was in the mid 50's that evening in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Upon reaching the north side of Dallas sometime on the second day, we chose Interstate Highway 35E to take us around Dallas. We then caught Interstate 35 south through Waco, Austin, and after spending the night in Austin, it took us through San Antonio to the Border Station at Laredo / Nuevo Laredo where we crossed into Mexico. Here is a picture of the border station.

That night, the night of 12/23/01, my log entry began "All in all an interesting day, A border crossing and my bike broke down twice." For the exciting details continue reading MEXICO part 1.
