By Trevor Stewart According to a Gage County Sheriff’s report, on Monday May 2, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Adams Fire, Adams Rescue, Cortland Extrication, Clatonia Rescue, LifeNet Helicopter, and Lincoln ALS responded to a two vehicle fatality accident that occurred near the intersection of S. 110th and Birch Road. A white 2003 Chevy pickup driven by 15-year-old Megan Matthes, of Adams was traveling west on Birch Road when she met a red 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by her sister, 17-year-old Gabrielle Matthes, of Adams which was traveling East on Birch Road. The vehicles met on top of a hill and hit head on. Both drivers lived in the immediate area of the accident. Gabrielle was pinned in the vehicle and was extricated by Cortland Extrication and then transported by LifeNet to BryanLGH West for injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the Chevy pickup, Megan Matthes, and her passenger 16-year-old Katlyn Beu, of Adams were transported to Bryan LGH West for their injuries sustained in the accident. Megan has been released from Bryan LGH West. Katlyn is still at Bryan LGH West and is in fair condition. Gabrielle was later pronounced dead at Bryan LGH West from injuries sustained in the accident. Gabrielle was not wearing her seatbelt and her airbag did deploy. Megan was wearing her seatbelt and both airbags deployed in the pickup. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor. |
