Hickman woman arrested for allegedly growing marijuana

By Mark Mahoney

A Hickman woman was arrested May 21 on suspicion of manufacturing marijuana when deputies responded to her request to find her missing daughter for the second time in two days..

Brandie Jo Remmers, 35, of Hickman, called the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office to report that her 15-year-old daughter was missing. After deputies found the teenage girl at the city park and took her home, she told them the reason she ran away was because marijuana was being grown at the house, according to sheriff’s reports.

Deputies searched Remmers’ house at 527 Main Street and discovered 16 marijuana plants, ranging between three-fourths to 10 inches long, throughout the residence, according to sheriff’s reports. Taken into evidence were the marijuana plants, two bags of Miracle-Gro, marijuana seeds, planting pots and a black plant growing machine/greenhouse.

In addition to Remmers’ 15-year-old daughter, she also has a 13-year-old daughter living at the household, according to sheriff’s reports. They were placed with Health and Human Services after the marijuana plants were found in Remmers’ home.

Remmers was cited on suspicion of child abuse and for allegedly manufacturing marijuana, and then jailed, according to sheriff’s reports. She is due in court on June 23 for a preliminary hearing on a charge of manufacturing, delivering and possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver. She was still in jail Tuesday, said Sgt. Andy Stebbing.

On May 20, Remmers reported that her daughter had run away, but was able to find her in Wamego, Kansas, through a series of phone calls, according to sheriff’s reports. She made arrangements through the Wamego police department to have her daughter released to relatives in Kansas and returned home to Hickman.
