Alcohol considered a factor in Monday evening crashBy Christian Case The driver and passenger in a one-vehicle accident on Monday, May 26, remained hospitalized Tuesday. At about 7 p.m., Laci Armstrong, 22, of Holmesville, was headed east on Chestnut Road in a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. As she approached the intersection at S.W. 58th Road, she lost control of the vehicle, skidding sideways into the south ditch and rolling two and a half times before coming to rest on its roof in a cornfield.Armstrongs passenger, 22-year-old Sabrina Jurgens, of Pickrell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and thrown about 50 feet from the vehicle. Armstrong was wearing her seat belt. Armstrong suffered minor injuries to her lower leg and was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital, where she was treated and released. Jurgens injuries were more severe, but not life-threatening. She was transported to BryanLGH West via StarCare V, where she remained in fair condition on Tuesday. In the course of the accident investigation, Gage County Sheriffs deputies came to suspect that alcohol was a factor in the accident. A citation for Armstrong is pending. |
