Two area residents were
seriously injured after a head-on car crash Wednesday morning.
According to State Trooper Kent Kaven, Jessica Smith, 30, of Eagle, and
Kevin Gregg, 47, of Lincoln, were taken to Bryan LGH with serious, but non-life
threatening injuries after their vehicles collided head-on during bad driving conditions
on June 25, at 6:25 a.m.
Both were transported by ambulance because it was too foggy for the
Life-Flight to get to the scene of the accident Kaven said.
"(Smith) was driving a 2001 Honda Accord southbound on Hwy. 43 and
due to heavy fog, she didnt see the stop sign and drove straight into the 2003 Ford
Explorer (driven by Gregg)," Kaven determined through his investigation.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy 43 and Hwy 2 near
Palmyra.
Kaven said Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her
car. Gregg was wearing his seatbelt, Kaven said.
"Luckily the Accord is built really well and the airbag slowed her
down," Kaven said.
Bryan LGH would not release the extent of Smiths injuries, but
described her as being in fair condition. Gregg was described as being in "serious
condition." He was being treated for broken ribs, a lacerated liver and a lacerated
spleen according to Kaven.
Kaven said he turned the case over to the (Otoe) County District
Attorneys Office, but doubted that any charges would be filed.
