Columbus man on motorcycle injured on Highway 33

By Mark Mahoney

A Columbus man was hurt around 12:25 p.m. July 19 after his motorcycle slid over some loose gravel and tipped over at the intersection of Southwest 14th Street and Nebraska Highway 33, northeast of Martell.

Carl Munford, 50, of Columbus, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Highway 33 when he slowed down to make a right-hand turn to travel south on Southwest 14th. According to sheriff’s reports, as Munford was turning, he encountered some loose gravel, which caused his rear tire to lose traction and tip over on Southwest 14th. Damage to his motorcycle was estimated at $250.

Southwest Rural Fire responded to the accident scene and took Munford to BryanLGH Medical Center West; the hospital had no record of him Tuesday. Munford was wearing a helmet, according to sheriff’s reports.
