Cortland man cited for alleged criminal mischiefBy Mark Mahoney A Cortland man was cited on suspicion of criminal mischief on July 27 after he allegedly threw a beer bottle at a car near Third and Walnut streets in Hickman, breaking the back window.According to sheriffs reports, around 8:45 p.m., a 45-year-old Hickman woman reported that she saw two young men walk past her house and one of them pick something up and throw it at a nearby car, breaking the back window. The womans 47-year-old husband and 40-year-old friend from Hickman chased after the two men, caught them and brought them back to the car with the broken window, according to sheriffs reports. Damage to the car was estimated at $350. Deputies arrived a short time later and questioned each man separately, starting with Dustin Doeschot, 21, of rural Hickman, who said his friend, Zachary Meints, 21, of Cortland, tripped over a beer bottle, became angry, picked the bottle up and allegedly threw it, hitting the back window of a vehicle, according to sheriffs reports. Meints allegedly admitted to throwing the bottle, according to sheriffs reports. He was cited on suspicion of criminal mischief and released. |
