By Mark Mahoney

Cash and jewelry were taken from a rural Hickman couple’s home on South 96th Street sometime between June 1 and July 21.

According to sheriff’s reports, on July 23, the couple discovered that they were missing $40 in cash from an envelope and several pieces of jewelry, including a yellow-gold heart-shaped necklace with diamonds, a yellow-gold sapphire necklace with diamonds and earrings, a woman’s antique yellow-gold ruby ring, a man’s yellow-gold 1970 Lincoln Southeast High class ring with a sapphire, a man’s 1937 New Mexico University class ring and a man’s yellow-gold ring with black onyx. The total loss was estimated at $4,615.

Fingerprints were found at the scene and the envelope of money was taken as evidence. According to sheriff’s reports, the couple suspects a family member. The case is under investigation, Brookhouser said.
