Two-vehicle collision on Nebraska Highway 33 kills rural Crete teen, Lincoln manBy Mark Mahoney A two-vehicle collision along Nebraska Highway 33 took the lives of a rural Crete teenager and a Lincoln man early Thursday morning, August 7.According to a Lancaster County Sheriffs office press release, around 1:38 a.m., Nathan Paulsen, 19, of rural Crete, was driving his 1998 Pontiac Bonneville west on Highway 33 near Southwest 100th Street when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane. His car then crashed head-on into a 1998 Toyota 4Runner driven by Man Huynh, 58, of Lincoln. Both drivers, who were wearing their seat belts, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. Capt. Don Young said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash. He added that determining why Paulsen crossed the center line would be difficult, if not impossible. The crash occurred about four miles east of Crete and a mile north of Kramer. Huynh had just completed a work shift at Farmland Foods south of Crete, and Paulsen was coming home from Lincoln; he lived close by, Sgt. Andy Stebbing said. He added that there was no evidence either driver took evasive action and authorities were investigating whether speed may have been a factor in the crash. |
