Roger D. Anderson

Roger D. Anderson, 66, Grand Island, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008. Born May 23, 1942, in Madison, South Dakota; the son of John and Rosella (Gudahl) Anderson. Married Melodee Carey April 7, 1968, in Sacramento, California.

Graduated Montrose High School, attended Dakota State University. Served in South Dakota Army National Guard. Played semi pro football for the Professional Football League’s Omaha Mustangs and moved to Western Division of Continental League’s Sacramento Buccaneers. Moved to Grand Island in 1986, owned and operated several Ford dealerships with brother Dick, and later son Mike. Five Points Bank Board of Directors, Dakota State Foundation Board, National Dealer Council for Ford Motor, National Auto Dealers Association, Nebraska New Car and Truck Dealer Association, President of Newcastle Chamber of Commerce, member of UNL Wheel Club, Hastings College and Missouri Western College; established Roger and Melodee Anderson Football Endowment for Dakota State Uni..

Survived by: wife, Melodee; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barb Anderson, Bennet; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Chuck Allen, Grand Island; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Judy Anderson, Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Ted and Karla Anderson, Montrose, South Dakota; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marianne and Chuck Oyen, Salem, South Dakota; Sharon and John Perez, Walnut Grove, California; stepsisters and their husbands, Lorraine and Charlie Judstra, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Christine and Jerry VanEmmerick, Minnesota; grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margo and Jack Lytal, Auburn, California.

Preceded in death by: parents and stepmother, Fern.

Services were held on Saturday, September 6, at Evangelical Free Church, Grand Island. The Rev. Gary Schulte officiated. Buried at Grand Island Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Tom Osborne TeamMates Program. Condolences may be sent to www.giallfaiths.com.
