Jean M. MarkelJean M. Markel, 86, Lincoln, died Friday, August 8, 2008. Born Hallam on August 8, 1922, to Charles and Lena (Rippon) Burk.Granddaughter of Gerhardt Rippon, who was the founder and president for 32 years of the Hallam Bank. Her husband, Robert, owned Markel Insurance Services in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for 35 years. After his retirement, they returned to Lincoln in October of 2003. Robert passed away in Lincoln on May 21, 2007. She enjoyed her home and friends at the Grand Lodge at the Preserve. Survived by: son, Kent Markel, Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughter and spouse, Allison and Tim Arndt, Lincoln; granddaughter and spouse, Gretchen and Robb Aernie, Shawnee, Kansas; four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: her husband, Robert E.; son, Randy; infant son, Gregory. Services were held Wednesday, August 13, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street.
