Velda SchmidtVelda Mae Schmidt, 80, Cortland, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Born on June 3, 1928, in rural Odell, attended District #78 Country School and Odell High School. Married Vernon Schmidt February 20, 1955, at First Christian Church, of Beatrice. Member Christ Lutheran Church, Pickrell. Member Jay-Husker Car Club. Enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking Kolaches.Survivors: husband, Vernon; sons, Darrell Schmidt, wife, Loree; Dennis Schmidt, wife, Gail, all of Cortland; daughter, Karla DuPont, husband, Keith, Lincoln; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, LaMoine Cacek, Cortland; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Ed Behrends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Christ Lutheran Church, of Pickrell, with Pastor Owen Derrick officiating. Family prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial for family’s choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home, of Beatrice, until 9 p.m. Thursday, then at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday. The body will be cremated. Burial at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, August 18, at 10:30 a.m. |
