Lamont Paul YonkeyLamont "Monty" Paul Yonkey, 61, North Platte, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Born November 21, 1946, in Lincoln to Arthur Frederick and Othilie Bader Yonkey. Married Barbara Ann Young June 1, 1969, in Fallbrook, California.Graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965 and worked for Nebraska Department of Roads before joining U.S. Marine Corps in April 1966. Served two tours of duty in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. First tour was with Golf Company 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine Division and second tour was with the 27th Marines. Discharged in June 1969. Worked for Nebraska State Patrol Troop D and retired in 1997. Member of V.F.W. Post #1504, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion and Eagles Aeries #2839. Enjoyed motorcycle riding, his dogs, hunting and fishing. Survived by: wife, Barbara, North Platte; sister, Connie and husband, Merlin Johnson, Lincoln; brother, Arthur and wife, Betty Yonkey, Hickman; nieces and nephews; five grandnieces; and other family. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16, at the First Presbyterian Church, North Platte. Burial with military honors was Monday, August 18, at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
