Elmer J. ZajicekElmer J. Zajicek, 84, Crete, died Sunday, August 3, 2008. Born July 23, 1924, on a farm near Wilber. Attended a country school through the eighth grade, also near Wilber. Devout and loving husband, proud of his family and loved spending time with them: children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike.Served in U.S. Army during WWII with 414th Engineers in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. He remained close to 414th all of his life. Upon returning to the U.S., he married Lovella Vlasak on September 18, 1946, at the United Church of Christ in Hallam. Lifetime member of the VFW and Legion, volunteering many hours along with Lovella. Served on the Color Guard and Firing Squad for five years, attending many services. Farmed 50 years, starting out east of Crete to their present home. Agent for 35 years, retiring at age 82, and served on the board of directors of the Western United Mutual Insurance Assn. Also served on the Dorchester Co-op Board. Member of the United Church of Christ in Crete for 50 years. Survived by: wife, Lovella; children, Gerald and wife, Pam, Wellston, Ohio; Janice and husband, Rick Johns, Denton; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and four nieces. Preceded in death by: brothers, Irvin Zajicek and Victor Zajicek. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 6, at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Crete. Memorials to UCC, VFW, or Legion. |
